The opening track, God Bless America, is an open letter to Bradleys. I feel unhappy I feel so sad I have lost the best. Changes (Bradleys third album) begins with a love letter and seemingly ends with one. The song is the theme song for Big Mouth. Since Daptone Records founder Gabriel Bosco Mann Roth invited him to record with the Menahan Street Band and released those initial recordings in 2002, Bradley has dropped three full-length. His vocal performance is absolutely outstanding, but the accompanying music video – in which Charles doesn’t utter a single word – is nothing short of breathtaking so much, in fact, that the video’s director Eric Feigenbaum says that Charles’ performance was so powerful that “By the end of the take, everybody in the room was holding back tears. Changes is a Black Sabbath song, covered by Charles Bradley. I feel unhappy I feel so sad I lost the best friend That I ever had She was my woman I loved her so But its too late now Ive let her go Im going through changes Im going through Changes (in my life) We shared the years We shared each day In love together We found a way But soon the world Had its evil way My heart was blinded Love went a. Charles channeled the pain of losing his mother and the changes that came following her death for this outstanding performance. Bradleys longtime producer and co-songwriter Thomas Brenneck returns to the fold though the album does see some changes from previous albums.
